Our Mission |
Hiawatha Bicycling Club (HBC) has been a bicycling club in the Twin Cities metro area since 1999. Our mission is to bring people together through bicycling. We encourage riders of all levels to get out, explore and connect. Whether you ride fast or slow, far or near, on any kind of bike, you belong here! Our groups ride together, support one another and make sure no one is left behind. Ride leaders plan routes with different distances, speeds, and locations in mind, making it easy to find a ride that’s right for you. After many HBC rides, there are opportunities to relax, socialize and connect with your fellow riders. HBC is a year-round club with most rides offered in the spring, summer and fall. In the winter, we supplement our limited rides with informal hikes and a Smart Cycling educational series. |
We welcome new members and guest riders! Here’s how:
| Club TriviaWhere did our name come from? And why do some Ride Leaders call “Highball!” when they want the group to resume riding? One of HBC’s founders was a train buff. As the club was formed, a group ride crossed paths with a magnificent Milwaukee Road Hiawatha Train engine. Inspiration struck and the founders established the new club’s name and adopted the train’s orange color scheme and logo. “Highball” is a railroad term based on a ball-shaped signal mounted near railroad tracks on a post. When the ball was raised high, the track ahead was clear. Ride Leaders call out “Highball!” on group rides to signal “all clear, roll on”. |
Social riding is all about having fun while biking with others. Riders join Hiawatha Bicycling Club to:
Our typical club member is a person who likes to exercise outdoors, enjoys bicycling and the fellowship of groups. Our Club is split equally between women and men. We come in all shapes and sizes and our riding abilities vary. HBC offers several weekly rides at different distances and speeds allowing our club members to find a ride that meets their needs. We were all new to the Hiawatha Bicycling Club at one time so we want to make your first experience an enjoyable one. Read through our website for more information and then join us for one of our rides. Non-members are always welcome at rides.
